ABOUT BELLS YEW GREEN CRICKET CLUB

HISTORY

Bells Yew Green Cricket Club was founded in 1947 by men returning from the war and in 2017 celebrated its 70th anniversary.

The Club has four Mens Adult Sides competing in the Sussex Cricket League, and there are also regular Sunday friendly fixtures. The Women's 1st XI competes in the Sussex Women’s Premier League, with the 2nd XI in the Sussex Women's Division 1. We also have a thriving junior section of over 170 boys and girls aged from 6 to 16.

We featured as “Club of the Month” in the Cricketer magazine in February 2016 and are recognised as an ECB National Showcase Club.

AN ECB CLUBMARK ACCREDITED CLUB

ECB Clubmark is an accreditation scheme for cricket clubs and is licensed from Sport England as part of their wider Clubmark scheme.

ECB Clubmark shows that a club is sustainable, well run and provides the right environment for its members. Clubmark accreditation also means your club is recognised as a safe, rewarding and fulfilling place for participants of all ages, as well as assuring parents and carers that they are choosing the right option for their young people.

To obtain accreditation, clubs are asked to provide evidence that they meet a series of criteria. This is done by loading evidence onto an online portal and by demonstrating good practice at a site visit conducted by an allocated Club Support Officer. A copy of the criteria can be found here.

Accreditation lasts for 3 years at which point the club will complete a re-accreditation exercise. In the intervening 2 years there is a requirement to complete an annual health check to maintain accreditation.

Bells Yew Green are proud to have once again secured ClubMark accreditation and as an already registered ECB Clubmark organisation, BYG are prioritising junior development, creating a benchmark for high quality community club cricket.

There are a number of people and organisations who support clubs through the ECB Clubmark process, including the County Cricket Boards, County Sports Partnerships and local Sports Development Units among others.

ECB Clubmark gives clubs an opportunity to write and implement new procedures as well as acknowledge existing practices. Cricket clubs are required to present evidence and demonstrate implementation across four different themes, culminating in the production of a Club Development Plan.

The four themes

The four themes

  • Duty of Care and Safeguarding Children
  • The Cricket Programme
  • Knowing your club and its Community – One Game
  • Club Management
